My Personal Life
I have a variety of interests and hobbies, but they all incorporate a very active lifestyle. I enjoy being active in the outdoors in a variety of ways.
Triathlons
One of my passions in life is training for and competing in triathlons. In particular, I enjoy the variety that is involved in triathlons: running, swimming, and biking. I have competed in 4 triathlons, both on-road and off-road. I won my age group at the Lake Michigan Triathlon in 2006.
Travel
The other main passion in my life is travel. I have been all over the United States, visiting 30 states and 12 national parks in the process. The main reason why I enjoy traveling so much is not only the beautiful and unique sights, but also getting to meet people along the way. In May of 2007, I spent two weeks in Peru, traveling around the Sacred Valley and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Along the way, I met two couples from Britain and solo traveler from New York City. While we were all at Machu Picchu, one of the guys from Britain proposed to his girlfriend. Through these connections, I was invited to spend New Years Eve in Manhattan and later, invited to the wedding in Wales and their homes in London.

I enjoy traveling to exotic locales and meeting the individuals who make that place so unique. I also hope to gain new perspectives as I travel that I can incorporate into my teaching. In this golobalized society we now live, knowledge of other cultures is becoming more and more important.
